A middle-aged man was crushed to death by a trailer in the early hours of yesterday, along Aggrey Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Eyewitnesses said the victim, who had mental challenges, allegedly slept under the trailer unknown to the driver of the vehicle.
A witness who was passing by when the incident occurred, said the driver, apparently not aware of the presence of the man, had entered the vehicle and driven off.
“It happened so fast, and by the time I saw the young man, he had already been crushed,” he stated.
Commenting on the incidence, a taxi driver blamed the driver, “because he ought to have checked the vehicle before switching on the ignition.”
However, another source, who said he knew the victim and his family, doubted that the victim slept under the truck, because he rarely slept outside.
Meanwhile, the driver has been in police custody.
