Paris Saint-Germain commenced their pursuit of a third consecutive UEFA Champions League title with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes stadium in France.

The reigning French league champions demonstrated their prowess, with new summer signing Ferran Torres leading the charge by netting a hat-trick in a one-sided encounter. This commanding win marked a strong start to their European campaign.

The evening was also notable for Yaya Toure, who etched his name in history as the first African coach to lead a team in the Champions League group stage. However, his debut for Slovan Bratislava was marred by the formidable performance of PSG, which included a brace from Ousmanne Dembele. Fabian Ruiz contributed PSG's sixth goal, while Suleiman Camara managed to secure a consolation goal for the Slovakian champions.

Elsewhere, English Premier League clubs also celebrated victories. Liverpool triumphed over Atletico Madrid with a 2-1 scoreline at Anfield. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, scored five minutes either side of halftime, ensured victory for the Merseyside club, rendering Marcos Llorente's early strike for the Spanish capital club a mere consolation.

Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 win against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Italy. The decisive goal came just 15 minutes from time, with captain Martin Odegaard finding the back of the net to continue the Gunners' winning streak this season.

In another fixture, a Galatasaray side, notably without star striker Victor Osimhen, suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, despite the Turkish champions initially taking an early lead.
