Dortmund's Westfalenstadion holds more than twice the capacity of White Hart Lane but Spurs have outgunned BVB this campaign and have the hottest marksmen in Erik Lamela
Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur meet in competitive competition for the first time in their history this week when they clash in the UEFA Europa League last 16.
Spurs face a 500km trip to the Westfalenstadion for the first leg where they can be expected to be met by a crowd of up to 81,359 - restricted to 65,851 for European matches - a large portion of whom will form BVB’s formidable Yellow Wall.
Both sides come into what is perhaps the tie of the round in fine form, mounting title challenges in their respective domestic leagues, and having cruised through the round-of-32 under their impressive young coaches.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs hold a narrow advantage in terms of goals scored, having hit one more than Dortmund’s 10 in 11 UEL outings so far.
The Premier League club also have the hottest marksmen of the tie, with Erik Lamela’s total of 6 goals in 6 UEL matches leaving the Argentine with an average of a goal every 79 minutes.
Thomas Tuchel will be hoping for more inspiration from his danger man, African Player of the Year Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who will be hoping to add to his 4 UEL goals this season (excluding qualifiers).
While Tottenham have won the competiton on two previous occasions (1971–72 & 1983–84), for Dortmund lifting the UEL this season would see them become just the fifth club to lift all three major UEFA titles.
