In what could be termed a deliberate plan to thwart the chances of the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator from Rivers east, George Sekibo, today presented a petition against the governor at the plenary session of the Senate.

Amaechi is among President Muhammadu Buhari's ministerial nominees waiting to be screened by the Red Chamber next week Tuesday.

The petition which filtered into a rowdy session and submitted on behalf of the three senators from the State, accused Amaechi of fraud and corruption.

Sekibo, while attempting to present the petition was immediately shouted down by some senators of the All Progressives Congress, chorusing “no, no, no, “dead on arrival”

This however caused the senators of both parties to start raising voices at each other not until Sen. Olusola Adeyeye (Chief Whip) intervened to quell the uproar.

Meanwhile, the hallowed chamber in its first motion of the day was on the demise of Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (1915 – 2015) as sponsored by Sen Olanrewaju Tejuoso of Ogun Central Senatorial District.

Senator Lanre Tejuoso took time to eulogize the great life of the matriarch of the Awolowo Family while Senators Abiodun Olujimi, Tayo Alasoadura and Fatima Rasaki added their voice to appreciate the good life of Mama HID Awolowo.

The Senate however observed a minute silence for the repose of the Soul of the jewel of Inestimable value.

The Senate had also raised a delegation to commiserate with the Awolowo Family. Members include Senator Oduah, Sen Abiodun Olujimi, Sen Ben Murray Bruce and Sen Shehu Sanni.
