The 37-year-old Palmeiras goalkeeper was selected alongside Neymar and Douglas Costa to lead the Selecao's quest for their first gold medal
Thirty-seven-year-old Fernando Prass says he hopes his experience can galvanise Brazil’s under-23 side at the Rio Olympics in August.
On Wednesday the Palmeiras goalkeeper was selected alongside Barcelona’s Neymar and Douglas Costa as the Selecao’s three permitted overage players at the tournament.
And Prass, who has never before represented his country, says he is also counting on the youthful exuberance of his new team-mates rubbing off on him as Brazil go in search of their first Olympic gold medal.
“I have played for big clubs where the pressure to win also great,” the former Gremio and Vasco da Gama man told Globo.
“I will try to bring the experience I have to the younger players and also make sure I learn from them, too.
“The most important thing is forming a strong group, so you go out and make sure you strengthen the [team spirit] as well.”
Local reports suggest Prass could also captain the side after receiving a glowing reference from Olympic coach Rogerio Micale.
"Prass is the captain of his team, a leader in the dressing room and is currently having a great season with his club," Micale told a press conference.
“"He has experience, technical quality and the profile of a leader. He wants to win all the time and that is what we need."
