The new Middlesbrough striker has warned that players must focus on how much they may have cost and earn the trust of their new colleagues

Alvaro Negredo will be just one of a host of new arrivals looking to make their mark on the opening day of the Premier League season this weekend. The former Real Madrid Manchester City striker will mark his debut at Middlesbrough under a little less pressure than usual after arriving in a loan deal from Valencia. However, he has plenty of experience of joining a new club for a hefty transfer fee and has warned the glitzy new Premier League stars not to focus on how much they may have cost. “I don't even think of being a big-money move. Your cost is higher because you come from a great club, but I don't think I am worth more than any of my team-mates,” he told Goal exclusively. "Yes, fans have expectations that they believe you are going to win a game by yourself, that you can solve everything on your own. But it's not like that. I arrived as just one more player. The collective win games, not individuals.” Negredo says that in any attempt to settle into new surroundings requires the support of everyone else at the club and that players must stay humble regardless of their fee. “It's about self-confidence, having the confidence of a coach who plays you and makes you feel important to the team, and also the confidence of your team-mates,” he said. “Keep your feet on the ground, focus only on playing football and not thinking of the amount of money they paid for you.”
