The hotly-contested freshwater showdown saw Germany's top flight teams do battle on the DuckSpeedway. Find out who made a splash in the quackiest event around...

Ahead of the Bundesliga returning this weekend, a title race far more unpredictable has taken place in Germany: the BunDucksLiga! The cutest, craziest, quirkiest silverware chase you've never heard of involved 15 multicolored ducks battling for freshwater supremacy – with a foal, a wolf and a garden gnome joining in the fun for good measure. The BunDucksLiga is actually a semi-official event organised by the German top flight. It is essentially a rubber duck race between the Bundesliga's teams. And yes, these club-branded rubber ducks do exist! How did this duck-off go down? Well the 18 contestants were separated into three groups of six, in which the fastest two down the infamous DuckSpeedway from each race qualified for the final. The debutantes tag was water off Darmstadt's back as the club's duck won the opening round ahead of reigning champion Hertha Berlin, with Hamburg, Hannover 96, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen having their feathers ruffled en route to elimination. Ingolstadt winged the rapids to pip Augsburg to the stage triumph - no such luck for last season's runner-up Bayern Munch, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart, who all ducked out at the first opportunity. The final elimination round went swimmingly for victor Bayer Leverkusen and second-placed Schalke, while Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Koln and Borussia Monchengladbach were sent quacking.
