The Lafia-Obi federal constituency elections were declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and fixed for Saturday 18 April for re-run in Chiroma ward. The re-run elections took place on Saturday but it was again marred as gunmen suspected to be political thugs stormed Angwan Mangu and disrupted the election process. The gunmen, who came in three different vehicles, shot sporadically into the air and disrupted the exercise, snatching election materials. Although the gunmen did not shoot anyone, people took to their heels and scampered for safety as the gunshots ripped the air. However, the gunmen were repelled by security agencies, as a group of Special Anti-Robbery Squad arrested them with 7 Ak47 in one of their vehicles. Confirming the arrests, the state deputy police public relations officer, Christopher Mancha, said that five suspects were arrested by security operatives in Angwan Mangu polling unit. Mancha explained that the suspects have been taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
