Reports about Viper's demise might have been exaggerated, for there's still a chance it might live on.

Unfortunately, we’re not talking about the current-gen V10-powered supercar, which rumors have it will be axed in 2017, however, about a new one, built on a much more modern architecture.

In fact, according to Automobile, Sergio Marchionne himself offered some insights about a possible future mode during a press conference at the North American International Auto Show.

The “Viper was, has been, a labor of love. Given the architectural development within the brand, there is a possibility that a new version of the Viper may surface. Whether it will surface in time [to replace the current car, which is expected to cease production this year] is not clear to me.”

Ditching the old platform is good news, as handling has always been an issue and this holds true even for the latest model. Mind you, when SRT got serious it rolled out the ACR, which turned out to be one of the fastest production track-oriented cars to date.

See? Pour in the money, get everything sorted out and you have a great product. No quantum physics - just common sense.
