The range of the Volkswagen e-Golf is set to be increased significantly as the German automaker updates it with new-and-improved batteries.
Currently, the e-Golf's batteries are 28 amp hour units however, will soon grow to 37 amp hours, bumping up the hatchback's range by nearly 30 per cent. Rather than redesigning the existing batteries or adding more, the improvements in capacity will simply come through improvements in the individual battery cells.
Currently, the e-Golf has a range of 83 miles. Compared to the popular Nissan Leaf and its 107 mile range, the e-Golf is certainly lagging behind. However, a 30 per cent rise will put it right around the 108 mile mark.
With that being said, even with its improvements, the range of the e-Golf will still lag significantly behind the latest Chevrolet Bolt, which can travel over 200 miles on a single charge all while costing just $30,000.
It isn't yet known when VW intends on upgrading the e-Golf however, if it wants the model to remain relevant, it can't waste any time.
