With 394,400 vehicles delivered the previous month, the German manufacturer's global car sales dropped by 4,7 percent over February, 2015.

In North America, the brand sold 2,900 cars less, representing a 6.7 percent drop over the second month of the previous year. In the United States specifically, VW's sales fell from 25,700 to 22,300 units or a decrease of 13.2 percent.

South America recorded a drop in sales of 30.3 percent, to 27,000 vehicles from 38,800 in February 2015. In Brazil, 39.5 percent lest vehicles were delivered the previous month, at 18,000 examples.

In Asia Pacific, the automaker's sales decreased by 4.2 percent, to 185,200, and in China, which remains VW's biggest market worldwide, 3.0 percent less cars were delivered, from 175,700 to 170,500.

Russia followed the down trend, recording a drop of 7.0 percent, with 400 units less delivered in February, while the only markets where Volkswagen actually saw an increase the previous month were  Western, Central and Eastern Europe. In Western Europe, 3.8 percent more vehicles were delivered, at 110,500 units, with Germany leading the pack at 44,600 units, up 3.6 percent. In Central and Eastern Europe, the brand scored a 3.0 percent increase, from 15,500 to 15,900 vehicles.

In both January and February, Volkswagen's global sales dropped by 0.5 percent compared to the same months of 2015, with 915,800 units delivered, down from 920,800.
