Those caught red handed guys are keeping a low profile in the US, however, a debut is a debut no matter where it happens - or is it?

In VW's case, the answer is no. The two Beetles on display, the Dune and the Denim Cabrio were launched in LA last November.

No wonder they are keeping their premieres for the much more important Swiss show where they'll get lots more visibility and, anyway, they don't look half bad for those attracted to the latest version of VW's longest running model.

The Dune is the more interesting, with its off-road cladding that's supposed to hark back to the Baja Bugs of the 1960s. Even if it's just for show (pun intended), the add-ons suite the Beetle just fine and make it stand out from the rest of the range.

Drawing on the past, too, only a decade afterwards, the Beetle Denim doesn't need much explanation apart that, in contrast to the Dune that's offered in both hatch and convertible versions, it only comes as a Cabrio.

Both editions are powered by a 1.8-liter TSI petrol engine, good for 172 PS and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque and, apart from the dressing, come with the latest in connectivity. Not a surprise, especially in the US where it's become the norm for any new model.

So, there you have it: two special Beetles, not a TDI in sight. Just wait a little longer, will you?
