Allow us to introduce you to the VW GT Ge electric sports car, an impressive study made by one of our readers and industrial and transportation design graduate, Eljesah Shala, as part of a sponsored thesis from the German carmaker.
βMy Bachelor Thesis was sponsored by the Volkswagen Design Center in Wolfsburgβ, Eli tells us, adding that he just graduated from the University of Art in Braunschweig, Germany.
If certain elements of the GT Ge seem familiar, especially on the profile, thatβs because the designer drew inspiration from VWβs series of Gran Turismo Vision digital models that came to life with the GTI Roadster in 2014 and GTE Sport in 2015.
However, whereas those two concepts didnβt really try to hide their Golf hatchback origins, the GT Ge looks like a proper sports-, or some might say, even super-car, with taut lines that sculpt the body. The sharp front end plays with the new e-Golfβs signature C-shaped LED daytime running lights, while the rear has an even more exotic presence.
Shala says the GT Ge was designed around the same wheelbase as the Golf hatch at 2,637mm (103.8 in.), however, is notably longer at 4,500mm (177.2 in.), wider and a whole lot shorter in height at 1,152mm (45.4 in.). He adds that special consideration was given to aerodynamics (in theory always) to ease the electric motorsβ workload and improve cooling.
With consumer confidence in VWβs diesel-powered cars having taken a hit after the ongoing emissions scandal, the Germans are looking to contain the damage by renewing their focus on hybrid and electric cars, so a pure battery-powered sports car in the near future might not be as farfetched as you may think.
Thanks to Eljesah Shala for sharing his project!
