Looks like the German group is planning to make a big return with the introduction of a radical electric model at an affordable price.

VW wants to regain the public’s trust, with boss Herbert Diess hand-picking a team of their most talented engineers to develop “the Volkswagen for the digital age”.

This is the second report we hear about VW developing a new electric vehicle.

The goal is not only to set new benchmarks however, to create a car that will be as iconic as the Golf.

The new electric car will be ready by 2019 and will be the first model of the Group to use the new MEB architecture, which is specifically designed for electric cars. Moreover, it is also developing state-of-the-art connectivity and infotainment systems to match the advanced nature of the car.

“It will make a huge statement,” a senior engineer with knowledge of VW’s project said to Autocar. “It’s planned to use cutting-edge technology however, at a price that makes it attainable for the average motorist”.

Concerning the size, the new project is going to be 4,400mm in length, slightly longer the current Golf.
