Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak used to make the 16-kilometer trip to training while he was at Olimpija Ljubljana on a bicycle, according to his former team-mate Fernando Abreu.
The custodian just helped his club to their second Champions League final in the span of three years, proving key in los Rojiblancos' victories over Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven en route.
And Abreu, who featured alongside Oblak at Olimpija, believes there were always signs of the champion in the young Slovenian, beginning with his dedication cycling to training as a youngster because he had not yet obtained his drivers licence.
"BMW were partners with Olimpija Ljubljana, so they lent about 15 cars to the squad," Abreu told Goal. "But Oblak, who was very young, couldn't drive, so he had to ride a bike to training everyday."
The Brazilian went on to state how impressed he had been with the youngster's commitment and abilities from the start, adding: "Oblak was very mature despite his young age.
"He was always centered, calm and cold-blooded, to the point he benched a much more experienced goalkeeper we had in the squad [Damir Botonjic, then 28-years-old].
"The coaching staff always demanded a lot from him [Oblak] too, more than the other players because of his youth, even if he saved our skin time and time again in matches"
"There wasn't a single game a scout wasn't present to watch Oblak, it was incredible. He was a boy, and still he was the most praised player of our pre-season in Italy."
"It was obvious he would have a great career ahead of him, he totally deserves it."
