Against disintegration insinuations from certain quarters following last year’s electoral loss, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has reiterated the political resurgence of the party.

This, he said, had started manifesting with the victories of party’s candidates in the two senatorial and 21 state assembly re-run elections in Rivers State.

Sheriff, who spoke yesterday during a courtesy visit to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State in Akure, said members had buried the hatchet for the progress of the major opposition party in the country. It very clear today, from all the by-elections that we have conducted recently that the party has already come together.

“From all the by-elections in Benue, Kogi, Taraba, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states, it is very clear that whatever differences the people were having within the party before that made us to lose the election, they have come together to bury those differences so that we can concentrate and reposition our party.”

He said he was in the state to see the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Dr. Mimiko, whom he described as the “Governor-General” after a previous visit to Rivers State for a campaign rally.”

“We are going to have our convention very soon, which is coming up end of May and preparations for the convention are on top gear. I needed to consult my Governor-General, who is the chairman of our governors’ forum to discuss with him so that our convention will be successful,” he stated.

Sheriff affirmed that the consultation would goad the party to put its machinery in place for the forthcoming convention with a view to staging a comeback.

Earlier, Mimiko lauded the party chieftain for initiating some restructuring, saying since he came onboard, the party had won all pending elections.
