The midfielder was sent off in the second half for a second yellow - but the Gunners boss insists he was reminded to be cautious at half-time
Arsene Wenger has revealed that he warned Francis Coquelin at half-time before his red card in Arsenal’s draw with Tottenham.
The midfielder was sent off in the 55th minute for a foul on Erik Lamela, while he received a yellow card in the first half for handball.
Aaron Ramsey had put Arsenal ahead six minutes before the break but Toby Alderweireld and a stunning strike from Harry Kane put Spurs ahead. Alexis Sanchez’s goal rescued a point for the Gunners.
"He knows that he made a big mistake. We warned him at half-time. He wanted to do well and mistimed his tackle," said Wenger.
"He has to learn quickly from that. The top level is full commitment but in a controlled way. He made a mistake when on a yellow card.
"I can’t complain about it. I can complain that Dier wasn’t sent-off.
"I think the referee should come in the press conference after the game as well so that he could give you an answer."
