President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that Nigeria will join forces with other countries to crush Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of terrorism in West Africa.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja, Buhari called on West African countries to strengthen the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, in a bid to eliminate the terrorist group.
Buhari said, “I assure you all that Nigeria will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other countries in the fight to combat and eliminate terrorism in all forms in West Africa.
“I would want to seize this opportunity to inform you that the African Union Commission (AUC) and the LCBC/MNJTF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Support Implementation Agreement, SIA.
“With this, the African Union will coordinate the collation of all international assistance towards toward the prosecution of the fight against terrorism and extremism in our region.”
The President further noted that Boko Haram members have been depleted, adding that they have now resorted to hit- and- run tactics which will not last.
