After hosting a successful West African Golf Tour in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, now wants to other events organisers to consider the state for future competitions “because the state is safe.”
The governor, who said the success of the Tour in Port Harcourt has proved that the state is secure for investments, sports and tourism, added that despite the sponsored negative media propaganda to discredit it high profile events’ planners continued to preferred the state.
The governor was speaking at the Golf Course of Port Harcourt Club, where professionals from all over West Africa competed in the third leg of the Tour.
Wike said the preference for the state stems from their knowledge of the reality on ground, adding, “I feel so happy that the entire West African region have gathered here in Port Harcourt for this prestigious golf tournament.
“These high profile golf professionals have seen first hand that all they read in the newspapers are merely sponsored propaganda. Rivers State is safe for sporting events and business investments.”
The governor disclosed that his administration has deliberately improved infrastructure to make the state attractive for hosting of high profile events, which will energise hotel patronage and other tourism related activities.
Wike promised that his administration would continue to support sports because of its capacity to keep people mentally and physically fit, in addition to creating business opportunities.
