Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has responded to the selection of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, to flip down the Upper Chambers’ welcome for the second time.
Saraki expressed that President Muhammadu Buhari, “will not condone it”, noticing that no IGP has ever scorned the Senate’s summon since Nigeria got here again to majority rule authorities.
“I don’t need us to labour an excessive amount of on this challenge. Being the Upper Chamber, at occasions, we should present maturity and statesmanship. Anybody who is aware of, is aware of that this motion can't be proper. We are usually not a Senate in Committee. We are a Senate in plenary.
“The IG has stated that he can't come. He desires to delegate it to a junior to come. Since we returned to democracy, there was no IG that has refused to come. He is doing this and it is a risk to our democracy. It isn't solely to us, it's also to the President.
“The President instructed him to go to Benue, and he refused to go.
His speedy boss, the Vice-President is a SAN. I do know that he will not condone this. Also, Mr. President will not condone this.
“The Leader of the Senate and the Chairman of Police ought to interact with the Executive. There are powers that we are able to train.
“This year alone, there have been over 500 or 600 deaths. The man who has the power to stop this has not come to brief the representatives of the people,” Saraki mentioned.
