A gripping Primera Division campaign leaves a host of valid candidates for the title, as Real Madrid pushed Barcelona right to the last day - but the decision is yours

With the 2015-16 Liga campaign finished, it is now time to decide who deserves the honour of the league's best player.

Which superstar has made the most compelling case for the award?

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Jan Oblak and Aritz Aduriz all shined in the past year, and any member of that s3xtet would be a worthy winner.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

The Portuguese striker took time to get going, but when he hit his stride nobody could stop him in front of goal. For the sixth season running he broke the 50-goal barrier for Real, and few are as deadly inside the area.

A double against Deportivo was not enough to give the Merengue La Liga, but it took Ronaldo to 51 goals in all competitions and the Champions League could yet end up in his trophy cabinet.

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

It has been a season to remember for the France international, who has come up big time and again for Atletico in front of goal. Griezmann notched a total of 22 strikes in La Liga, but his strike-rate is only one facet of what he brings to the team alongside his technical ability and eye for setting up his team-mates.

Diego Simeone's fierce defensive unit would be half as effective if the side were not converting at the other end, and the ex-Real Sociedad man has been crucial in that area.

LIONEL MESSI

It has not been the best year of Lionel Messi's career, but what is average for the diminutive Argentine is still well beyond the capacity of almost any other footballer on the planet.

Despite missing two months of the season Messi weighed in with 37 goals, 26 of which came in Barcelona's winning Liga campaign, and a further 19 assists show how valuable he is even when not scoring.

ARITZ ADURIZ

Athletic's very own Benjamin Button laughs in the face of the passing of time. 12 months after taking the award for highest Spanish goalscorer the veteran has done it again this year, and 36 goals in all competitions represent an incredible haul for any striker.

Thanks to Aduriz's heroics Athletic are looking forward to another year in Europe, and even the Spain national team have stood up and started paying attention.

LUIS SUÁREZ

Something special was needed to break Messi and Ronaldo's Pichichi monopoly, and Luis Suarez is certainly that. The last Liga campaign belonged to the combative Uruguayan, who smashed 40 goals in just 35 appearances and finished with an incredible total of 53 in all competitions.

La Liga is in the bag, the Golden Shoe too - and possibly the Ballon d'Or?

JAN OBLAK

It is hard to believe Jan Oblak is just 23-years-old, judging by his immensely mature performances in the Atletico net.

The Zamora Trophy winner has the luxury of tending one of the best-guarded nets in Europe, but his reflexes and agility have been exceptional when tested and a record of just 18 goals conceded in 38 Liga appearances this season tells its own story.

Now you decide: Who is La Liga's Player of the Year?
