Former manager of the defunct Pop duo, Psquare, Howie T has revealed some of the reasons that led to the group’s eventual breakup. His revelation is not different from what Peter wrote on twitter prior to the group’s exit. Howie T managed the group between 2001 and 2005, after they won a Benson & Hedges talent hunt.
As stated by him, “Well, the guys in question are adults, married with children, so I think we should respect their opinion. And the truth is, I believe they know what they are doing. When I saw Peter’s tweets, I called him and even went to see him to talk to him about it. He stated br /> Jude is the problem that he doesn’t have any issue with Paul.”
Howie T also confirmed Peter’s anger with his elder brother and manager’s attitude towards the group’s income sharing formula. “He told me that in a normal setting, a manager is supposed to be their employee and not the other way round, but Jude always uses his influence as their elder brother to boss over them. He also stated managers collect between 15 and 25 percent of an artiste’s income but, in their case they share everything equally and he is not happy with that sharing formula”.
Howie T further revealed more of Peter’s grudges against his siblings, “Secondly, things like this messes up an artiste’s creativity, Peter is a composer, dancer and singer, when they sit down to vote on songs that will make their album, Paul and Jude vote for more of Paul’s songs than Peter’s and these are the things that pisses him off”.
Speaking further Howie T said, “It has gone beyond just beef now, there is a lot of ego at play”.
Concluding, Howie T, who is now a marketing executive, disclosed that Peter still wants Psquare to exist but not with Jude as their manager, “In my opinion, for peace to reign, why can’t Jude just leave them alone, Peter has told me that if they change Jude today, there will be Psquare tomorrow and sadly the only person that can talk to them is their mother and she is dead”.
With this recent development, PSquare has joined the list of defunct musical groups. The group has performed professionally for almost 17 years, coming close to Art Quake who are still going strong after almost two decades. We bring to you a list of other groups that
has ended up like Psquare:
PLANTASHUNBOIZ
This R&B group was a hit in the late 90s and early 2000s. It consisted of Innocent Idibia, Tuface, Chibuzor Oji, Faze and Ahmedu Augustine Obiano, Blackface. The group
released three albums together and is remembered for songs like Say You Believe Me, You and I and PlantashunBoiz. The group eventually broke up because theirs was a situation of ‘three captains in one ship’ as Tuface later admitted.
KC PRESH
The members of the group gained
popularity after they won Star Quest TV show and they coined their name from their first names: Kingsley and Precious. Presh stated he walked away from the group because he did not get to do his style of music. They had two albums together and will be remembered for
a couple of hit songs, the hottest of which is ShokoriBobo.
THE REMEDIES
Founded in 1997, the group consisted of Tony Tetuila, Eedris Abdulkareem and Eddie Remedy and was a hit in the 90s. The trio split in the early 2000s with the members pursuing individual musical careers. They released only one album together, but their Shakomo
and Sade are still a club hit till date. While Tetuila became popular for tracks such as Omode Meta, Morning Time, Hit my Car and My Heart Go Jigijigi, Eedris remained in the limelight for songs like Oko Omoge, Mr. Lecturer and JagaJaga. Remedy, the unluckiest member of the group, quickly fizzled out of limelight.
MAINTAIN
Olu and Tolu alongside Big Bamo pulling the strings mostly from the background formed the group that was known as ‘Maintain’. They had a couple of hit songs from the late 90s till 2005 when they split. They are remembered for songs like I Catch Cold, Nibo La WaNgbe Lo. While Tolu concentrated on his banking job after the breakup, Olu Maintain continued doing music, releasing hit tracks like Yahoozee and Nawti.
ZULE ZOO
They became popular after the success of their Kerewa which was banned for obscene content. Mike and Ibrahim Alhassan, members of the group, tried to go solo but they didn’t have any hit song.
INFINITY
They were a gospel group that became popular after the release of their hit songs, OloriOko, Aye Ole and Only Praise in 2007. They had only one album together and crisis began after the exit of Kehinde Akinbode, now known as K’ore, who would later admit privately that members of the gospel group were not practicing what they preached. The now-four-man-group tried to stay together after his exit but it was not quite easy.
KUSH
Their split was as inevitable as it was rancour-free; it is always hard for a group of single females to stay compact after marriage, with the pressure of homes located hundreds of thousand of miles apart. The group started at the University of Lagos and consisted of four ladies, the main faces being TY Bello, Emem Emma, and Lara George. Dapo Torimiro was their backbone from the background. They were persuasively named KUSH meaning, Kinetically Ushering Salvation into Homes. They had barely hit fame with their single, Let’s Live Together when they split due to the pressure of their homes and differences in the locations that individual members wanted to settle in.
MO HITS
The group was founded in 2004 and co-owned by Micheal Ajereh Collins better known as
Don Jazzy and Dapo Oyebanjo known as D’Banj. It became a label that signed various artistes such as Wande Coal, D’Prince, Dr Sid and K-Switch, but it split in 2012 due to irreconcilable differences between the co-owners. They have since pursued solo musical careers, and both now own successful record labels. They will be remembered for so
many hit singles, a few of which are Tongolo, Mo Bo Lowo Won, Socor, Why Me, Rundown, Pere, Booty Call, Fall In Love, Gbona Felifeli, Igwe, Kimon,Taboo.
Breach of contract: Court restrains Debbie Rise from recording, performing A Lagos High Court has granted an injunction against upcoming musician, Debie Rise, from doing anything musically related. The injunction is as a result of the suit filed by 800 Records against Debie for breach of contract. The injunction granted by Justice Candide-Johnson restrains Olurishe Deborah Ebunoluwa, better known as Debie Rise from carrying out activities as a recording or performing artist. The order prohibits her and her agents or representatives from recording, releasing, distributing any composition, song or musical works.
It would be recalled that Debie asked to be released from her contract after heavy investment on her by the company. 800 Records asked her to consult her lawyers and also sent the record of expenses expended on her, with series of correspondence exchanged between her and their solicitors, L&A Legal Consultants. Debie abandoned her contract and continued to carry on like it was a ‘weightless’ piece of paper. It was to this end
that 800 Records instituted a legal action against her and the recent injunction is considered a good conclusion.
The record label refused to join issues with Debie on social media, apart from one solitary public notice they issued warning members of the public against dealing with her without their consent and authority. As stated by 800 records in the notice, “we seek legal redress and interpretation on what has transpired between 800 records and Debie Rise, as the case is in court, we will speak no further.”
Debbie Rise emerged Nigerian Idol Season 3 First Runner-Up. It would be recalled that the feud between Debie and her label began in July 2015 when she requested the label to provide a detailed account balance of how much has been spent on her career so far and asked to be released from her contract.
