All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why it threatened to form parallel government in the build up to the 2015 general elections.
The party's National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed yesterday that feelers from the meetings held with various groups across the country gave the party the confidence that there was no way the Peoples Deocratic Party (PDP) could have won the election.
Speaking at a reception programme organised by De Raufs Volunteer Group, a pro-democracy group in honour of five Nigerians, who have contributed immensely to the process of nation building, Lai Mohammed stated from the interactions the party had with all interest groups across ethnic, cultural and professional divides, the party became highly confident of victory, and that the only way it could suffer defeat was through rigging.
“After the Ekiti State governorship election which our party lost, we were all very unhappy and we had to schedule different meetings with all necessary groups including market women, the youth groups, professional bodies, religious bodies, traditional rulers and so on. From our interactions, we were assured that there was no way we could lose the election and that was what gave us the boldness to threaten to form parallel government should we be rigged out by the PDP,” Mohammed stated.
Among those honoured by the group included Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district; Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), representing Lagos West; Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and former managing director of the Sun Newspapers; member; Professor Mojeed Alabi, member, House of Representatives from Osun State and Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Lagos State, Habib Aruna.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani has again cautioned the Federal Government in the way it pursued the war against insurgents, saying the country was under siege and that government must be careful in going about the December deadline to end insurgency.
