All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmanship candidate for Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, in the local council poll scheduled for tomorrow, Chimbiko Iche Akarolo, has stated that the fact that if he wins he will be serving under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state government, led by Nyesom Wike, will not hinder him from giving quality service to his constituents. Akarolo said: “Every time they ask me that question, I tell them there are All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, states with PDP at the head and vice versa and no breakdown in law and order because we are serving the people, not ourselves. “For sure, there will be no clash of interests because where we stop is where the state starts. Our roles are clearly defined by the constitution and where we have to play a complimentary role, we will come together and find a way out. I cannot suffer because I belong to the APC and he PDP. It is the same at the federal and state levels.” On why he defected from PDP to APC, the erstwhile council chairman said: “Let me tell you, I am a progressive in nature. If you check the projects I did, you will realise I am someone who wants change. We have had several chairmen from 1999 till date, but if you go there, you will realise the projects I did stand out. “The others who did two terms, you cannot compare what they did in six years to what I did in three years. It simply means that the moment I was sworn in I took off. I have programmes here and there because the system I was in was used to stomach infrastructure and when you decide on stomach infrastructure first the people will suffer.” On his blueprint when he returns to office, he said: “Well, people are hungry. That is the truth and a lot do not have what to do. The last time I met with some firms in Port Harcourt City, they were ready to partner with the City Council and employ some of our people at certain levels. “That would have been concluded before I left office. In fact, I want to say both Elf and AGIP were willing. They were impressed that I came. I told them one of the things that will reduce security threats in Port Harcourt is that some of these youths are engaged in one skill or the other and at the end, you engage them and provide the necessary materials and they agreed with me.”
