A 59-year-old girl who lived in a Catholic-run orphanage as a youngster has revealed how a nun s3xually assaulted her with a hand brush.
The girl recognized as Helen Holland informed Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry that she was s3xually abused by a nun and a number of other males with one she recognized as a priest, on the Nazareth House house in Kilmarnock.
She mentioned the “sadistic” and unholistic act started when she was eight years old.
Holland lived within the orphanage house within the 1960s and 1970s and that interval was the worst of her life.
Dropping her anonymity, the lady mentioned it began when the nun at her house informed her “the devil was inside” of her.
She mentioned: “She took me into her cell and told me to take my clothes off.”
The 59-year-old girl mentioned the nun assaulted her with a “hand brush”.
“She took the hand brush … and asked if I could feel the devil. That was the start,” she added.
Holland stated that throughout confession, she informed a priest what occurred between her and the nun and the way she “had to get the devil out”.
But, the confession, led her to being known as the “most wicked child he had ever met” because the priest led her again to the orphanage, the inquiry heard.
At the orphanage, Holland mentioned the nun joined them and so they went into a room.
She mentioned, “He informed her what I’d mentioned. They checked out one another, the best way folks do when they have an understanding however with out language.
“I ended up over what seems to be like a boardroom desk with (the priest) raping me.
“She was holding my hands across the table. I was told I was a brazen hussy and I must learn to keep my mouth shut.”
Holland mentioned she was abused over a four-year interval and that different kids on the orphanage suffered horrible assault by the nun.
According to her, some women had been punched, kicked and dealt with with a bamboo cane referred to as a “switch” due to the noise it made.
She informed the inquiry that as a youngster she reported the comb assault to social companies however nothing was completed. Then, as a grownup, the case was not pursued by the procurator fiscal as a result of the nun was “too old and too infirm”, however she challenged it.
Holland is now a chairwoman of In-Care Abuse Survivors group, which campaigns for justice for these affected by such points.
