Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has unveiled a substantial N515.5 billion (Five Hundred and Fifteen Billion, Five Hundred and Eighty-Three Million Naira) budget proposal for 2026. Tagged as the "Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation," this financial blueprint was presented to the State House of Assembly on Thursday, marking a pivotal step in the state's politics and development agenda.

Strategic Allocations for Sustained Growth

The proposed budget details a significant allocation to recurrent expenditure, totaling N192.128 billion, which accounts for 37.3% of the entire budget. A larger portion, N323.455 billion, or 62.7%, is earmarked for capital expenditure. These strategic allocations are designed to drive sustained economic growth and facilitate infrastructural transformation across various sectors within the state.

Diversified Funding and Sectoral Development Priorities

Funding for the 2026 budget is projected to come from diverse sources including the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), various AIDs, Grants, and the Capital Development Fund (CDF). Governor Buni emphasized that the budget will bolster ongoing efforts in critical areas such as road construction, the establishment of hospitals, development of markets, construction of schools, and significant advancements in agricultural development.

Accelerating Post-Conflict Recovery and Socio-Economic Advancement

A core focus of this budget is the completion of existing projects and the initiation of new ones, particularly in the context of the state's post-insurgency recovery and accelerated socio-economic development. This strategic approach underscores the government's commitment to rebuilding and fostering prosperity. Responding to the presentation, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, assured a thorough and prompt review and passage of the budget, highlighting its importance for Yobe State's future and overall Nigeria General News.
