The Nasarawa State Police Command today stated a Chinese farmer, Mr. Williams Chain, was kidnapped on his farm in Sabon Gida in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Lafia today, the Police Public Relations Officer, Umar Numan, stated the incident, which was reported to the police, occurred on Tuesday at about 4.15pm.
He stated the command had since commenced investigation to ensure that the Chinese was rescued.
As stated by Numan, the police were working with other security agencies to curb the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in the state.
Mallam Maikeffi, the village head of Sabon Gida, where the farmer was kidnapped, expressed worries over the activities of gunmen in the area, which he stated had caused the people to leave in fear.
He noted that the kidnap of Chain, who has provided employment for over 30 youth on his farm, sent a wrong signal to foreign investors, who might want to collaborate with the Nigerian government to broaden the economy.
The community head advocated a 24-hour security patrol in the area.
