No fewer than 10 persons have been killed and several others injured in fresh communal clash that broke out in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Agbaduma, Abugbe and Aila communities in Agatu have been on war path over ownership of land and fish ponds in the area.
Several houses and property were burnt during the weekend, just as the communities have been deserted.
Reacting to the incident, former Senate President David Mark urged the communities to embrace peace.
In a statement on Tuesday, Mark said: “Resort to self-help as a means of solving any problem is counter-productive. Killing one another will only aggravate the situation. We must embrace dialogue as a panacea for peace to reign.
“I urge security operatives to rise up to the challenge and restore normalcy to the war-torn communities.”
