Governor Aminu Tambuwal
Governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal has announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made known his exit from the party on Wednesday at a press conference in the Government House, Sokoto.
Sokoto is located in Nigeria’s Northwest region, which houses President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina.
The governor, in a statement on the state’s Twitter handle, said he had consulted the people of Sokoto and was assured of his ”next political move.”
Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, becomes the third governor to leave the ruling party in one week.
Benue state governor Samuel Ortom had left the party on 24 July, while Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara and Senate President Bukola Saraki announced their exits from the APC on 31 July.
