Fulham are determined to keep the two brothers and the only Premier League interest in January was from Arsenal.
The club also bid for Leicester’s Chilwell earlier in the window and, with the long-term future of Kieran Gibbs becoming uncertain, are expected to make another attempt this summer.

The injuries to Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere had made central midfield the transfer window priority for Wenger but, with Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathier Flamini all likely to leave this summer, that area of the team will remain the focus even after the signing of Mohamed Elneny.
Wenger’s summer budget is likely to be at least £70 million once the new television deal is also taken into account. It means that, after the arrivals in recent years of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech, the resources are there to add another genuinely world-class player this summer.
Availability will again be the challenge, particularly given the likely activity and competition for players from Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. Lars Bender, William Carvalho and Victor Wanyama are among those still being regularly scouted.

Wenger will also look carefully at the centre of his defence. Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are both now over 30 and, while there are big long-term hopes for Calum Chambers and Gabriel, there is a danger that the squad will lack cover in the transition between these four players. Striker is a position that Wenger would still like to strengthen but finding solutions to improve on Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck will be difficult.
