Arsenal are not expected to sign any first-team players in January despite a recent slump in form.

The Gunners have lost two consecutive Premier League matches to Everton and Manchester City over the past week, prompting many supporters to urge manager Arsene Wenger to recruit further personnel when the transfer window opens next month.

But it’s unlikely that a major signing will be made due to several senior players returning from injury in the coming weeks.

Danny Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker are all close to a return while Santi Cazorla has pencilled in a comeback for the new year.

Goalkeeper Jasper Schendelaar, 16, could join the academy set-up at Hale End after youth chief Andries Jonker identified the AZ Alkmaar youngster as one for the future.

Highly-rated midfielder Dan Crowley will also head to Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles on loan for the rest of the season following an impressive spell on trial.

No major departures are expected, although loan moves for Carl Jenkinson and Chuba Akpom remain possible if an attractive offer comes in for them.

Wenger bolstered his squad in the summer by spending £100m on the likes of Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez.
