Exactly two years after the abduction of over 200 school girls from Government Secondary School in Chibok town, Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents, the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, on Thursday marched to the Aso Villa, lending a voice to the clamor for their release, Famzn News reports.
The BBOG is a leading group pushing the Nigerian government to rescue the Chibok school girls kidnapped on April 14, 2014.
From the BBOG, civil society and religious groups, eminent Nigerians, including some embattled parents of the abducted girl, the message was the same: βFree the Chibok girls,β Bring Back Our Girls.β
Marking the second anniversary, the group trooped to the Aso Rock , the seat of government, to remind the occupants that the primary responsibility of the government is protection of lives and property.
Before the march, the co-convener of the group Aisha Yesufu, addressed newsmen at the Unity Fountain, Abuja. She said: βItβs unbelievable that two years on, we are still talking about Chibok girls in captivity. We are not talking about Chibok girlsβ rehabilitation and how far they have come after their captivity. Itβs so sad.
βItβs a sad, heartbreaking and painful day, especially talking about the video that has been released by CNN and seeing a parent crying so wretchedly, so painfully.
βToday, apart from being a painful day, is a day we renew our hope.
βAs far as the girls are in captivity, Nigeria is in captive, β Yesufu stated.
Led by Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education and leader of the BBOG, the group displayed placards and banners which read βHope endures, βBring back our girls now and alive. They lamented the nonchalant and βI donβt careβ attitude to rescue the abductees and as well, the governmentβs seeming inability to do anything about it.
Chanting songs of solidarity, Ezekwesili noted, βIt is exactly 731 days since the girls went missing, we will not give up.β
Singing the BBOG song, the group chorused, βSolidarity for ever!!! We shall always fight for our girls.
βBring back our girls back and alive is our demand.
βThe truth and nothing but the truth is all we ask.
βWe will not stop until our girls are back and alive.
βWe are from Chibok. We are Nigerians, we are fighting for the soul of Nigeria.
βThe fight for Chibok girls is the fight for the soul of Nigeria.
βOur core value is Humanity, Discipline,β the group lamented as it marched on to the Aso Villa.β
