When the four-ring brand pulled the covers off the SQ7 TDI the previous week, several pondered whether it could reach US shores.

Now, it seems that there is a possibility, even though an official decision has yet to be made. Speaking to Autoblog, Audi USA spokesman, Mark Dahncke, said: "The SQ7 is not officially signed off for the US, however, we're optimistic".

While the VW Group-wide diesel emissions scandal would have you thinking that Audi might drop a gasoline engine in the North American SQ7, in the same way it did with the SQ5 that gets a TDI in Europe and a TSI in North America, surprisingly, Dahncke said "expect it to be a TDI if it does come".

In European configuration, the high-performance SUV needs 4.8 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), from a standstill, and it can go up to a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Responsible for these numbers is a 4.0-liter TDI that delivers 429 HP (435 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque, connected to a redesigned 8-speed auto. In the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), Audi claims the SQ7 returns a combined fuel economy of 31.8 mpg US (7.4 lt/100 km).
