The Japanese company revealed an overview of the new Subaru Global Platform which is set to be used at the architecture of their next-generation models.

Part of the company’s mid-term business plan, the new platform will become one core element for the brand, next to the boxer engines and the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

“This new platform represents the culmination of the know-how we've developed over several years, and we're confident that it will allow us to produce vehicles that live up to our proud traditions and meet the high expectations customers have of Subaru”, said Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, President of Fuji Heavy Industries.

According to Subaru, the new platform will offer the world’s highest levels of safety and is designed to offer a more dynamic driving feel apart from high performance. Its modular nature makes it also adaptable for electrification, confirming in the same time that hybrid Subarus are on the way.

New models will see a dramatic increase on structural rigidity with Subaru claiming gains of 70 to 100 per cent over current models and gain a 5mm lower center of gravity. The more rigid foundation also means a significant improvement on NVH and comfort levels too, with the new platform said to reduce body roll by 50 per cent compared to today’s models.

Impact energy absorption is improved by 40 per cent, with the platform designed to have the potential of offering class-leading safety levels even in 2025.

All future Subaru models will be built upon this new structure, as it allows not only to create vehicles of different sizes however, also to be adapted in traditional engines and hybrid powertrains, plug-in hybrids and all-electric models.

The first model to benefit from the new platform will be the next Subaru Impreza, scheduled to be revealed afterwards this year.
