Gareth Bale may have been in electric form in La Liga in recent weeks, but the Real Madrid winger's scoring record in the Champions League is not quite as impressive.
Heading into Wednesday's clash with Manchester City, the Wales international had gone 11 European matches without finding the net in a run that lasted almost 17 months.
But the former Tottenham star looked to have brought that drought to an end after 20 minutes at Santiago Bernabeu as his angled drive flew past Joe Hart and into the top corner to give Los Blancos the lead.
But closer inspection of replays showed a deflection off Fernando played a key role in the strike, and UEFA have since credited the strike as an own goal by the City midfielder.
The opening goal has been confirmed as an own goal by Fernando. #UCL

That means Bale is still waiting for his first goal on the continent since nettting in a 4-0 win over Ludogorets back in December 2014.
