Bartolo Colon has homered for the Mets.
That is not a misprint.
Colon, the big Mets pitcher known for his comical at-bats, launched a two-out, two-run homer to leftfield to give the Mets a 4-0 lead over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night in San Diego.
It’s the first career home run for the 42-year-old Colon.
The home run sent social media into an immediate frenzy, and Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen joked on-air that the home run was “one of the greatest moments in baseball history.”
MLB’s Statcast clocked Colon’s home run trot at 30.6 seconds.
“I want to say that was one of the longest home run trots I’ve ever seen,” Mets TV analyst Ron Darling said on-air, “but that’s how fast he runs.”
