HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli
As preparations for the Warri Peace Marathon gathers momentum, the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli, has given his approval and prayed for the successful debut of the event billed for May 28.
The marathon, first of its kind in the city, is meant to promote peaceful coexistence among communities in Warri and its environs. It will also encourage healthy living for the people.
The Delta State government has already thrown its weight behind the race as part of its sports and youth development programme.
The newly crowed Monarch, who spoke when the organising committee of the Warri Peace Marathon paid him a courtesy visit, welcomed the novel idea and pledged his moral and financial support for the smooth running of the 10km race.
“We are very glad and encouraged by the endorsement by the Olu of Warri,” the chairperson of the organising body, Mrs. Joyce Bozimo told The Guardian yesterday. “To this end we are working towards delivering a peaceful and enjoyable marathon race,” Bozimo, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Tamitare Gym added.
