Bauchi Confinement: Man Rescued After 17 Years Imprisonment
A 17-year-old man, Muhammad Lawan, has been dramatically rescued by Bauchi State Police after allegedly being confined and leg-chained by his own father for an astonishing 17 years in Digare town, Alkaleri Local Government Area, Nigeria.
The harrowing discovery was made following information received by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on 16th February 2026, at approximately 16:20 hrs. A conscientious Samaritan reported that one Muhammad Lawan, known locally as Babangida, had been cruelly confined by his biological father, Mohammed Lawan, within their home for nearly two decades and left without adequate care.
Police Intervention and Arrest
Upon receiving this distressing report, a dedicated team of detectives, spearheaded by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ‘B’ Division, in collaboration with the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), promptly attended the scene. Their swift action led to the successful rescue of the victim, who was found to be in an extremely emaciated condition.
The father, Mohammed Lawan, has since been arrested by the police and is currently being held in custody as investigations commence into this grave matter. This immediate apprehension signals the seriousness with which authorities are treating the alleged illegal confinement.
Victim’s Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
The rescued man has been swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he is now receiving comprehensive medical attention and crucial rehabilitation support. This care is vital for his physical and psychological recovery after such a prolonged period of alleged abuse and isolation.
The police have confirmed that a preliminary investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding this inhumane act.
