Before the Australian GT championship kicks off in Adelaide next month, BMW's brand new M6 GT3 has enjoyed its first two days of testing in the land Down Under.

The test took place at the Winton circuit in Victoria, with Steve Richards and Max Twigg having turns in testing out the racer in local conditions. While the example used for testing wasn't adorned with a racing livery, it is expected to be adorned in a pristine white finish when it makes its racing debut.

According to Richards, “the car, in terms of refinement, is just fantastic. We’ve really been able to come to terms with the layout of the cockpit, the way the dashboard works, reading the shift lights, things like that. The way it operates, and the way it handles, the car is spot on.”

BMW unveiled the M6 GT3 late the previous year as its successor to the Z4 GT3. It is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 which can be tuned to deliver 585 hp. Coupled to that engine is a sequential six-speed racing transmission powering the rear wheels and giving the sub-1,300 kg race car enough performance to rival other GT3 entrants from Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Bentley.
