President Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn the decision made by the administration of immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, in raising the status of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano to a Federal University of Education. Aacademic activities at the oldest college have been suspended owing to a strike action embarked upon by the academic Staff. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) under Jonathan, in one of its meetings before winding up on May 29, approved the upgrading of 3 Colleges of Education in the country to the status of federal universities of education to fill in the widening gap and provide the necessary manpower to the neglected educational sector. President of the academic union of the FCE Kano, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, said that the union was left with no option rather than to direct its members to down tools and boycotts classes. He chided the decision by the new government in reverting the college back to its former status as counter-productive, and that the strike action is going to remain peaceful. He revealed that classes will not resume until President Muhammadu Buhari rescinds his decision and allows the college operate a full university system. Dr. Sadiq said that FCE Kano is proud of structures and facilities like modern theater halls, spacious classes, state-of-the-art laboratories and adequate land for any expansion project that will come up in the near future. The academic staff union's president then solicited the support and co-operation of students of the college.
