The governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, says President Muhammadu Buhari has the constitutional power to review the All Progressives Congress’ campaign promise of N5,000 job-seeker’s monthly allowance without being challenged.
Governor Al-Makura said this in an interview with State House correspondents yesterday after meeting behind closed-doors with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Reacting to reports quoting Buhari to have dropped the APC’s promise, Al-Makura said the president was free to review such a matter any time as his (Buhari’s) action was in the best interest of the country.
The governor said: “The president is the person that can tell you precisely how he is working on promises and interventions that he has created by his ingenuity.
“And if at any point in time the president is reviewing that issue, I think he is the only person to do that because what he is doing is in the best interest of the country. And so, it is not challengeable by anybody whatever his/her position is”.
Al-Makura said he was at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa to request that his state be considered for the proposed 330 KV power infrastructure.
The governor lamented that “the state is still terribly deprived of power” despite his struggle since 2012.
He said he also discussed the security situation in his state with Osinbajo as well as his collaboration with Benue State Governor Sam Ortom on how to end the perennial herdsmen-farmers’ clashes.
