The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has directed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to investigate a forgery allegation against Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun.

A report by an online news medium, Premium Times, on 7 July, claimed that Adeosun failed to comply with NYSC Act, which made it compulsory for every Nigerian graduate at home or abroad to participate in one year service to the nation.

Graduates from universities or equivalent institutions at not more than 30 years are required by law to take part in the Scheme.

And Adeosun was said to have graduated from the Polytechnic of East London in 1989 at 22 but did not take part in the mandatory scheme.

As stated by the report, the minister got a fake NYSC exemption letter in 2009, seeing that she might need it.

The NYSC certificate or exemption works as requirement for job placement in the public and private sectors in Nigeria.

Based on this allegation, the Presidency is understood to have written the NYSC, demanding a thorough probe of the scandal.

The NYSC had said, amidst the controversy, that based on their records, Adeosun did apply for an exemption certificate.

But the body did not state whether the request was granted or not.

“A formal letter was written to the NYSC and that the outcome of the investigation is being awaited,” a source in the presidency told Daily Trust.
