Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has hailed Sam Allardyce's appointment as England manager and says he is looking to impress him at the start of the new season.

Allardyce took over the Three Lions reins after Roy Hodgson resigned from the post following the national team's Euro 2016 exit against Iceland.

Cahill, 30, is looking to put his Euros disappointment behind him as he prepares for Chelsea's International Champions Cup matches against Liverpool, Real Madrid and Milan.

And the defender says Allardyce's arrival has given him extra motivation to hit the ground running with Chelsea this term as he looks to catch the former Sunderland manager's eye.

"I am excited to be working under Sam," Cahill said at the UCLA training camp. "I'm looking to impress him at the start of the season and looking to impress him, if I'm fortunate enough to be involved in the squad.

"I'm looking to keep involved and keep that shirt. I've very passionate to play for my country. His appointment is an exciting one for us. It's going to be a change. It's going to be interesting to work under him and have his ideas and take them on board.

"It's down to me to impress him and make sure I hit the ground running so that I am in the squad when he selects them.

"It's obviously going to be a change. The manager is going to come in and put his ideas over to us. I'm ready for us to buy into his ideas now."
