An Abuja High Court of Justice, has reinstated the impeached Speaker of the House of Kuje Area Council, Hon Aisha Yakubu.
The Judge, Hon Justice V.B Ashi, who gave the verdict in Abuja, ordered that the defendants whether by themselves, their agents, privies however constituted, are thereby further restrained from the plaintiff to handover government properties in her possession.
As stated by him, "The oral application for withdrawal of the claim against the 3rd defendant is hereby granted, substantive suit is fixed for hearing on September 24, 2015”.
A suit was earlier filed with no: FCT/HC/ CV/2609/2015 and motion no: M/ 9516 / 2015 between Aisha Yakubu as the plaintiff and the chairman of Kuje Area Council, Shaban Tete, the secretary of the council, the Acting Speaker and the clerk of the House as defendants.
It would be recalled that the council impeached the Speaker of the House, Mrs Aisha Yakubu, in a manner many say was unjust.
Some youths of the council, who staged a protest on poor infrastructural development of the area barricaded the entrance of the council secretariat, displaying placards with inscriptions “Return our speaker; Kuje is dirty; we need good roads.”
Mr Emanuel Kurei, leader of the group, said that the removal of the area council officials by the chairman, Mr Shaban Tete, uwas not in the best interest of the people.
On her part, the impeached Speaker, Aisha Yakubu, said that the chairman had on several occasions tried to remove her by instigating the councillors to vote her out.
Reacting, chairman of the council, Tete, said that the impeachment of the Speaker was purely a legislative affair, saying he had no comments on the matter.
