Leaders of Ogbia Local Government Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, have described the defections of the senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Senator Clever Iksikpo and some others to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as big relief.
At an enlarged meeting of the party from President Goodluck Jonathan's constituency, the leaders stated that the existence of Ikisipko with his fellow defectors, adversely affected PDP fortunes.
Meanwhile, youths from Ogbia, under the umbrella of Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council, OBYC, said they have commenced the processes of recalling the trio of Senator Ikisipo, Nadu Karibo and Azibola Omekwe over their defection to APC.
Describing the trio’s action as anti-Ogbia and a “conspiracy to ridicule President Jonathan”, OBYC disclosed that in liaison with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, it has started massive sensitisation and collation of signatures towards the recall of the defected lawmakers.
OBYC National President, Mr. Dazibia Apiri, in a communiqué issued after an emergency stakeholders’ meeting attended by over 2,000 youths at the weekend, further stated that the defected lawmakers have been declared “unelectable, persona-non grata and unfit to hold any public office whatsoever.”
Senator Ikisikpo, Hons Karibo and Omekwe, representing Ogbia federal constituency and Ogbia constituency 1 in the Bayelsa House of Assembly respectively and Innocent Kaku, a former chairman of Ogbia Local Government, had on May 14 defected to the APC.
Ogbia PDP leaders in a statement said the defection of the defectors to APC did not come as a surprise, going by their antecedents.
Calling on APC not to rejoice over its new members as they are sheep in wolves clothings, the PDP leaders noted that their actions have shown that they are a bunch of ingrates who had ridden on the back of the party and its leadership to limelight only to turn back and stab them.
