Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has revealed that he has sponsored an invoice that seeks to remove the proliferation of small arms and lightweight weapons.

Speaking on Tuesday when he acquired a delegation from Security Sector Reform of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria and Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, He stated violence is starting to take root forward the 2019 normal elections.

Dogara stated: “Elections occur in nearly all governments, however not all elections are democratic. We are speaking about selling democratic elections; these democratic elections have some standards: they're purported to be honest and free, they're purported to be inclusive, and they're purported to be periodic. Where you maintain elections in an atmosphere of intimidation and violence; it can't be free and honest.

“Once it isn't free and honest, it due to this fact means it doesn’t cross the factors of a democratic election. So that’s the problem, and the reality is that there isn't a corruption that's greater than truncating the need of the individuals by means of elections into authorities positions.

“This is as a result of that's the essence of consultant governance, because the individuals have elected their representatives and it's these representatives that they've elected and having taken positions in authorities that may ship the products.

“We are aware of the fact that if this Bill is quickly translated into Law, as we are running into the 2019 general elections, if we are able to set up this Commission, we will combat this illicit dealing in weapons of war. We will be able to provide a very conducive environment for the 2019 elections to take place.”
