The wait will finally end this weekend when the Premier League returns to action – and one forked out a massive €842 to see Jose Mourinho try and get one over on his old club Chelsea in October.

And the Premier League fanatic will also have to travel around 10,000 miles for the pleasure, with Ticketbis sales data revealing the purchase came from Australia.

The highlight of the opening weekend of action sees Arsenal host Liverpool for what has been the best-selling match thus far, representing 16.5% of Ticketbis Premier League ticket sales.

So far, fans from 51 different countries have purchased tickets for the 2016-17 Premier League season as international sales rise from 49.5% to 51.4%.

Around half of all sales have gone to those in the United Kingdom, with United States (6.6%), South Korea (5.5%), Japan (4.1%) and Australia (3.7%) making up the top five.

This season’s tickets are 5.8% cheaper than last season’s. The average ticket price for EPL kick-off tickets in 2015 was €223.60.
