Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili/
President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of June 12 because the Democracy Day is a “welcome gesture” and an “honour” to late Kudirat Abiola, in response to ex-Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili.
Buhari had on Wednesday modified the date for the occasion from May 29 to June 12 in honour of the late Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was annulled by then Military Head of State Sani Abacha.
While reacting to the event, Ezekwesili hailed Buhari and known as for such honour to be accorded the spouse of the late Abiola.
”That’s a very welcome gesture from @NGRPresident @MBuhari – this honor finished Chief MKO Abiola. The symbolism of June 12 is large for our Democracy,” the previous minister posted on Twitter.
”The sacrifice of the Abiola household was a lot and I do hope Mrs Kudirat Abiola is equally accorded the distinction due her. #History.”
