FCT Land Rights: Wike Pledges C of O for Indigenes

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged to issue Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to the indigenous people residing on their ancestral lands within the FCT. This commitment was made during a thank-you visit to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Wednesday, aiming to provide a sense of belonging to the native inhabitants.

Minister Wike, during his visit to the people of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), underscored his commitment to addressing the historical grievances of the area's native inhabitants. He emphasised that the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) would provide the indigenous communities with vital documentation for their ancestral properties.

Ensuring Land Ownership and Equity

Wike expressed empathy for those displaced from their ancestral homes, pledging every effort to expedite the issuance of these critical land titles. This initiative is designed to integrate the indigenous people more fully into the fabric of the FCT, granting them recognised ownership of their lands.

“We must change the pattern of politics in Abuja; we must. It is imperative to acknowledge the presence of people everywhere we go, and to recognise their rights and contributions,” he stated, highlighting a shift towards more inclusive governance.

Appreciation for Political Support

The Minister also took the opportunity to thank AMAC residents for their significant support in the recent area council elections. He noted that the elected candidates were strong proponents of President Bola Tinubu, indicating a unified political front.

“I am here to express my gratitude for the support extended to all candidates in the area council elections, who are all staunch supporters of Tinubu,” he reiterated.

Wike stressed the importance of reciprocal relationships in governance, asserting that engagement should be symbiotic. “Meaning you do for me, I do for you; you fall for me, I fall for you; you push me, I push you; you love me, I love you,” he explained, underscoring a commitment to mutual support between government and citizens.

Grassroots Engagement Mandate

In line with President Tinubu’s directive, Minister Wike promised to dedicate time to regular interactions with the populace, aiming to bring governance closer to the grassroots. He added that the President insists FCT Ministers must frequently visit communities to ascertain their needs directly from the residents. (NAN)
