There has been a wild fire outbreak at the office of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) located at Effurun in Warri, Delta State.

As stated by an eyewitness, the fire occurred as a result of a failed clamping repairs on the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) gas pipeline.

The failed repairs led to an oil spillage into the bush behind the army barracks and in a river at the far end of the barracks.

Other eyewitnesses stated the fire started at about 4:30pm local time on Tuesday when an unknown person tried to burn some waste near the area the spillage had occurred.

Since that evening, soldiers of the Three Battalion located in front of NNPC office, the PPMC, NNPC, Nigerian Ports Authority, Chevron, Nigerian Gas, Julius Berger and Delta State Fire Service have been trying to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to the gas pipeline.
